Thanks for clarifying that, V. Yes, light duty is always an option if there are tasks the person can do; I've had it & it was bor-r-r-ring. But it was better than sitting around at home, once I was able to get around.
Enjoy the good weather. We are finally getting some decent rain here in northern CA. Where I am, it started yesterday and has been going almost continuously. Some of our reservoirs are down to 30-40% of normall capacity & we needed this rain (and snow in the mountains) in the most dire way.
I'm going to have breakfast now. Anyone want some French toast, scrambled eggs, & mixed fruit? I just fed the critters, so we can eat in peace. Posts: 13216 | Registered: Apr 2005

Curelom, how is it we are always missing each other?
I don't think we are going to Stake Conference tomorrow. I am trying to keep dh off his foot as much as possible til he goes to work tomorrow night.
I ran into the EQ pres. at Walmart this evening. He is coming by Tuesday to make an apology from the bishopric for what happened 2 weeks ago. The white shirt issue took an interesting turn. The EQP called the bishopric to account for the incident. He quoted the handbook to them. I love that man. He asked me not to discuss it with hubby so I will hold still til Tuesday evening. I feel vindicated. I have forgotten how to "trust the process" and Heavenly Father took care of us anyway.
Well, I am gonna get into my jammies and snuggle up with hubby. That back room is really comfy! all! V.

Good morning! I am glad to see Curelom is finaly getting some rain in her part of the Cabin! We had a little on Friday then the cold front moved in. This one isn't as bad as last week's was. For some a 32 degree windchill factor isn't bad. For me, it meant I wasn't able to start back with my walking routine.
I pray everyone is having a good Sabbath. V.

I see it's just V here, with a multicolored cluster of fur around her feet, lap, & shoulders.
V must be all mended, I see Pepper & Punkin each using one foot as a pillow. You need to go easy on her, OK? You critters have four feet, but we only have two, so it's tougher on us to have one or two go out of service.
Her dh must be taking a nap in the bedroom to get ready for the salt mines again. I too think it was pretty extreme to expect him back so soon, but if there's light duty he can do, we'll just send him off with best wishes & a thick sandwich of our Black Forest ham & Gruyere cheese, some potato salad & coleslaw, a thermos of hot lemonade, & a night's supply of Ibuprofen.
* Counts noses. *
Hmmmm....there's an extra. Let's see who it belongs to. I hope a skunk or raccoon didn't sneak into the fold.
Aha! I know who you are. You're one of the Siberians from Arbilad's cattery that I visited last week. You slipped out & came here & I took you home, & now you're back. What are we gonna do with you?
I was about to feed our pets, so you may as well have lunch. The sun has come out. I don't know how long it will be here. It's pleasant, so I'll feed everyone, take Nazar home, & sit outside for awhile & listen to the birds. But I hope we haven't seen the last of the rain. Annabelle, you're a water kitty, so why don't you join me to pray for rain?

We had the craziest storm here today. It was very neat!!! It started out with rain since the weather has been warmer, but then it turned to snow as it got colder..... but part of the rain storm wanted to continue, and so it began to roar with thunder while it SNOWED!!! It was so neat to see..... I don't think I have ever been in a snow thunderstorm before!!! Tomorrow is Chinese New Year..... to prepare for this festive occasion I went out a few days ago and got fortune cookies, rice candy, red envelopes with chocolate coins for the little ones..... and I am sure that tomorrow we will order out Chinese food for a dinner/FHE combination. Well, work starts early tomorrow. Gotta hit the sack!! Posts: 1070 | Registered: Oct 2006

MiMi!!! It's great to see you got here. Sorry I got here after you;d gone to sleep, but it was nice of you to leave us a note.
What a cool storm. It must have been beautiful to see. I'm afraid our rain is over for the night, & no more is forecast for several days. We're gonna have water rationing this summer.
You gave it away. I was going to get Chinese food for early dinner for the Cabin tomorrow for the New Year. We can have it in time for people to have FHE later.
The big parade in San Francisco is on Feb. 7. It's a big attraction for people from around the state, & some people even schedule a vacation to include it. There are many other events for the 2-week celebration period. I'll try to beam some of the Incabitants over to California for some of these events. You can pick from what you see on the website.
For our dinner, I think I'll get hot & sour soup, winter melon soup, Chinese chicken & cabbage salad, mixed veggies (snow peas, mushrooms, water chestnuts, & bamboo shoots), honey glazed walnut prawns, roast duck, fried rice & steamed rice, & fortune cookies & mandarin oranges. I'm sure we have some Mormon Champagne around here someplace to drink a toast to the new year.
Yes, Punkin, I will make sure there is enough for your celebration. Why aren't you asleep yet? Be sure to curl up & shield your neck, because I saw one of your bats looking in the window.

Good morning, Quid! What fun to have monkeys? I put the question mark because I know monkeys can be troublesome. I loved the pictures of the cows in the road as well. At the risk of sounding ignorant, cows are sacred, right?
Curelom, that Siberian cat that visited really was sweet. I never mind an extra furball around me. The left foot is still a little tender but doing much better. I am concerned about some ongoing edema and will be addressing that issue when I see my doc next week. I just had my mammagram done as well.
Well, I am gonna get something to eat and then wait up for hubby. They had him riding a tricycle last night. NOT my idea of "light duty"!!!!! I figure on at least having to do a heat pack. Then discuss if it is worth going back tonight or taking a sick day again. V.

The monkeys have only a couple of times (and we're not positive it was them) done anything to the plants on my balcony (something ate my lemongrass leaves and dug into the plant dirt) or left something behind (half-eaten mango bits, I think?) Other than that, the closest they've been to us was eating the flowers on our trees, so ten or fifteen feet. They have not, despite stereotypes, flung poo at us.
Mostly, they just hang around the neighborhood eating various forms of foliage.
As for cows, they're sacred to the Hindus (Tamils, minority), whereas Buddhists (majority) are supposed to not eat any meat. But the Muslims and Christians still eat cow.
Glad to hear your foot is doing well. Posts: 4447 | Registered: Apr 2003

Hi, Quid , I also enjoyed your blog & some of your activities & experiences that are so different from ours here. Monkeys in your neighborhood-- . I guess to us, it would be like having pigeons or raccoons in the back yard. Are they nocturnal (do they keep you awake?) or are they content to socialize in the daytime?
V, I'm sorry your dh came home with some discomfort. I'm not surprised his boss wasn't thrilled. If I had an employee injured, I'd never want them back without being sure they could function & not get hurt again. It must have been a manager or administrator far removed from the actual job who decided to send him back. Can the boss be a go-between & tell HR "you sent me an employee who isn't ready to resume work & he is either going to slow us down or get hurt again"? And with an OTJ injury, I don't get why he must use sick leave. There should be a company policy on that, or disability leave should take over. KQ would be mor einformed about that. But if you call the Labor Board, ask them.
I'm glad you enjoyed our Siberian visitor. I'm afraid that adventurous kitty may get out again & come here. He's a bit like Punkin. In fact, she may have egged him on. How will you keep 'em down on the farm, now that they've seen Paree?
Since I don't know what's available in your area, the only suggestion I can think of for your friend with the dog in need of a vet is to ask the SPCA or Humane Society, or county animal control agency if there is one. If your friend is receiving any kind of services for retired, senior, disabled, or indigent folks, a provider (social worker, visiting nurse agency, etc) might know of some resources.
I'm going to call our caterer to confirm our dinner order, & I should be able to have it here around 4:00 p.m. Meanwhile, I need to run out to Costco early, before it gets crowded.
(In case people ever wonder, we go by Nauvoo Standard or Daylight Time. Whatever time it is where you are is NST, so you can come & visit, share a meal, etc. on your own schedule.)

ooooo, Hot and Sour soup! Yum! I've brought spring rolls and ginger soy sauce for dipping. There's also fried doughnuts with crystal sugar sprinkled on them. Now to feast!
The person with the dog is an inactive member of the church. I called all the shelters and the Humane Society. There is absolutely no one in town who offers free services, only reduced cost. I haven't talked to her since this morning. She doesn't qualify for elderly services as she's not old enough.
Hubby see's the docs tomorrow. I am not going in as I'm afraid I'd be really ticked. Hubby needs to look at the handbood as the HR person stated that there was no workman's comp. According to her it's take sick time, vacation time or don't get paid for time off. Labor board is my next call.
Well, I'm off to wander. May be back later or just sneak in for sleep! V.

The monkeys don't bother us at night and honestly, at their noise levels, even if they were active at night, we wouldn't notice. While I hear them during the day, they're not irritatingly loud - they're at the same level as birds and squirrels chirping.
The stray dogs and cats sometimes keep us awake, especially if they're fighting, but honestly, the most troublesome creatures for waking us is the palm civet, we think. I say "we think" because we haven't actually seen the creature, only heard it fighting/routing around/giving birth in our ceiling, seen and felt its urine dripping down, and had a broken ceiling tile on our floor from where it nearly came through. It's a nocturnal creature, of course, because where else would the fun come from?

Quid, I think I'll quit complaining about the raccoons that have messed with our garbage cans. Their last bit of fun was to tear the handle of the lid of our can and pull garbage through the hole. What fun! NOT!

One of my fondest memories growing up happened while camping here in Florida. The campground was Highland Hammock State Park. Every night after the lights went out you could hear the raccoons coming through camp. They'd scramble into each can and scramble back out again! I know after all these years new methods for keeping them out have been developed. That is also the campground where I first had deer wander through camp.

Raccoons are pretty interesting & cute to observe, from a distance. So are skunks. Up close, like browsing through our garbage, they are a pitr.
That's why the Cabin has a high-tech pet door & each critter has a door opener. Our door code is entered onto our critters' ID microchips, so we don't have to worry about lost tags. We have our own encoder, so we can change the code & the individual keys without affecting the pets' ID, & our system is even adaptable to pawprint or noseprint recognition technology.
Of course, no system is foolproof (or critter-proof). They can let their friends in, which is probably how that nice Siberian cat showed up here.
we have a little Chinese food left, & a bit of the lasagna KQ brought, & some of Quid's curry chicken & veggies. And I brought some nice juicy green grapes. So I'm going to have a little potluck. Punkin, you're an adventurous kitty, would you like a bite of this curry chicken? Yes, a couple of grapes are OK too.
I hope V's dh had a better night at work (if he went). She'll probably drop by later. No, Annabelle, you don't need to save any of your sardine for her, I'll make sure she gets one of her own.

When we visited Shenandoah National Park, and stayed in the lodge there, there was a raccoon out on the hillside just behind the lodge. Every room had a little balcony looking out that way. We stood on our balcony and watched this adorable raccoon while some other guests a few rooms over were tossing some sort of snack to it. It could catch each toss in its little paws. The kids thought it was so cute. (okay, I did too.)
Trash-can raccoons are another story, of course.

Good morning! Well, dh has been cleared to go back to %100 at work. However, he and his boss have worked out a plan becuase that is a questionable diagnosis. We'll just be keeping an eye on his ankle for awhile.
EQ president came by last night to extend an apology from the bishopric about the "white shirt" incident a few weeks ago. Hubby accepted so that part of the issue is resolved.
I have errands to run today for a friend and for myself. I'll be back later. V.

I hope you & your kids weren't tempted to follow suit. It's a federal offense to feed wildlife in national parks. Yes, that's true, even though many critters are so appealing & "perform" so folks will feed them. The parks want to keep wildlife wild, & being fed gets them out of the habit of fending for themselves. The moms then teach it to their young. Sad to say, it's a model of the welfare state & multi-generational dependency. The things we could learn from nature!
Animals that get used to handouts become pests, & sometimes threats. Relocating them is often useless; you can't really relocate a raccoon, & bears are so clever that they find their way back to where the free stuff was. I had more than one park ranger tell of bears that found something simple (candy bar, crackers, etc.) in the woods, & the same bear would keep returning to the same spot for years, about the same time of year, to look for more.
However, our Cabin critters are domesticated, & they love handouts. Not b/c they're starving or lazy, but b/c it represents TLC. We have bears, deer, birds, raccoons, skunks, & other wildlife around the Cabin that we also feed, cuz even skunks need TLC too.
V's life is too busy lately. I also think it's a bit odd to declare someone 100% for physical work less than a week after spraining an ankle. Running errands is probably a good thing for her, to just get out & run around & get into circulation. I'll save some of this sausage, scrambled eggs, & grits for when she gets back. There's fresh OJ in the fridge. Yes, Punkin, a small bite of sausage is fine.

OOOOOO, breakfast for a midnight snack! That was grits, yes? I am getting hungry even though I ate too much for dinner. I put a roast in the crockpot and we had greens, mashed taters, and rice. (My girls don't like taters mashed )
Errands weren't bad. I sat in my car for most of two hours because both gf and her dd had appointments. I like being in the car on a pretty day because I can control my environment. ie don't have to watch someone else's choice on TV, don't have to listen to people's cell phone converstions and don't have to share their germs. I am reading Inkheart so I enjoyed the uninterrupted time. I even took a short nap. I then came home in time to take dd2 back out for her aquatic therapy.
Tonight was most interesting. Someone went to the bishop in our behalf(we didn't ask for this) and he called the RS pres. for us to get a food order. Honestly, I could make it without this but it will really help us get on top of the bills. I started to refuse but then thought that Heavenly Father meant for us to receive this blessing. This last two days has left me humbled.
So, tomorrow I have to go the the Bishops Storehouse. I suspect who done it and will see her tomorrow as well. I asked to borrow an egg becuase I needed one for cornbread and told her I couldn't afford to go get a dozen right now. However, the EQ pres. and our home teacher was here last night too.
I may be back later but my tummy is telling me to feed it. V.

* Waves to V & anyone else who might be lurking in the Cabin. *
I'm glad you liked the midnight breakfast. Grits isn't that popular here in the Bay Area, but I like it, & I seemed to recall that you did too. Was there enough? Ivie discovered that she likes it too.
It sounds like Heavenly Father is taking care of you. We don't always feel like being taken care of, but clearly someone is concerned about you, the two of you having health concerns, & the possibility of losing some income. Whoever made it happen was acting in the capacity of a ministering angel, And you know, I'm positive that Heavenly Father feels blessed when He can help His children.
We might have another temporary guest soon at the Cabin. There is a new critter in San Francisco. Her mom is pretty protective now, but may be willing to let the little gal visit us for a few days in the spring. I'll show our critters pictures first so they don't panic, because I doubt they've ever seen one of these.
It just occurred to me that the Cabin is within arm's reach of 5000 posts. If we come here often, we could get there in the fall.

V., I'd also call that a blessing. I'm glad there are people looking out for you.

Good morning! Curelom, that new baby is most prescious!
Quid, and anyone else that comes for a trip to the US, someday I'd love it if I can get folks to come further south and visit with us Floridians! We could get the Crow family up here as well.
I do feel blessed! Hubby hasn't had a lot of overtime and we've had mostly sufficient to our needs. Just got a little behind because December is always rough. This time around was due to car tag and my driver's license along with our health insurance. We need new tires and hopefully we can get our income tax done quickly. Waiting on investment and govt. retirement info.
Curelom, we have rain. I wish we could send some back your way. We don't need it quite as badly as you do. Well, I am off to wander Nauvoo and then will probably go back to bed for an hour or two. V.

I made a virtual ham & cheese omelet just for you, Quid, with hash brown, English muffins & orange marmalade. You can eat it here since you can't take it home. It's a beautiful day (we need the rain, but it it isn't gonna rain, it may as well be nice) & you can sit outside the Cabin amidst the birds & squirrels.
Punkin, please don't disturb Quid. I minced a bit of ham to put in all of you critters' dinners. (I'm glad most Incabitants have gotten accustomed to our animals & their excentricities ).
Maybe I'll get to Florida someday. The farthest south I've been on the East Coast is the Chesapeake area.
I'll have to buy Costco bulk food for the Cabin for awhile instead of gourmet stuff. California is going to send IOUs to taxpayers for now if they are due a tax refund, so I won't have the usual extra few dollars for awhile. The state is broke, literally. The legislature is 2 months overdue in approving a state budget & the state is $42 billion in the hole (billion, not million). Everyone is going nuts here.
Punkin. I'll need to stretch your Science Diet & Paul Newman food with generic food for awhile. We're sending a donation to help the SPCA because they are overrun with pets whose owners can't afford to keep them or don't have homes anymore. Those pets are the lucky ones; some folks are just dumping animals on the street or walking away after foreclosure or eviction & leaving them in the houses. It's gotten so bad here that the legislature has discussed (maybe already acted) requiring owners or institutions to take responsibility for humane care of animals found in foreclosed homes.

According to KPC, nope. The payments will be delayed a few weeks, a couple of months at most, but not withheld altogether until next year like they'd talked about. It'll just be slow in coming to you (file ASAP because the longer you take the longer they will take.)
Quoth KPC, "They probably figured out how much interest they'd have to pay on IOUs."
I do know a lot of people are now changing their withholdings so they will get back less next year and be closer to breaking even (rather than viewing a tax return as an "easy savings account" and what comes back as "play money." Which is good. That means they'll make the money work for them instead of letting the state have it sans interest. Since the state does so well managing it.)

I may not be back til tomorrow. I've given treats to all the furry critters this evening. I was able to distract Punkin for a brief moment.
