Beh. California mormons think they're the center of the universe. It's a cultural thing... has to do with the fact that Californians think they're the center of the universe. [Smile]

(Lived in Livermore CA for ten years... as a kid growing up... hence my narcissism. [Smile] )

California is not the center of the universe. However, when the Big One hits, everything east of California is going to slide into the Atlantic. [Cool]

THere are some cultural aspects of the church that are "more unique" to Utah that are just odd to me. They wouldn't be odd to people who live there because they grew up with it. But to outsiders, they are odd... I think there is a much more diverse culture anywhere else in the church though.
The ironic thing about this is that the "solution" is to make Utah more culturally diverse (on a local level), which would make it just like everywhere else in the U.S (i.e. the U.S. would become less culturally diverse).

If Utah was magically transported to a newly discovered isle off the coast of Africa we would think their cultural uniqueness was the coolest thing since BoM footnotes.

Would BYU stop sending me requests for money then?

no, they wouldn't... they would send more asking for more donations (yeah, verily it would become as the never ending PBS fund raising drives) because then they would be extolling the virtues of supporting their little third (okay, maybe second) world economy... [Wink]

and no it wouldn't... sub-culture quirks would suddenly become main-culture quirks... and yet, it would still be quirks! And those of us on the outside of the culture quirks would still do this... [Roll Eyes]

If this is Babylon, then that city must have repented and made it to the CK because some of the kindest, most Christlike people in the world live right here in my ward.

Uh, what is fry sauce? I'm a convert, living in the Southern Baptist Bible Belt, and I've never heard of fry sauce. It's probably an ignorant supposition, but if you fry a sauce, wouldn't it burn? Or, is this some kind of sauce you would dip your french fries in? [Dont Know]

man I miss me some fry sauce, from hires with an order of onion rings  and a frosty mug of root beer.

Basically fry sauce is a combination of ketchup, mayo, and other secret ingrediants. You dip various fried objects into it, yummy. Once upon a time, you could get it from McDonalds and other fast food establishments in Utah.

I am donating my share of fry sauce to my friends at Nauvoo. [Kiss]

If you have any horseradish you don't want, I will gladly take it in exchange. I add it to ketchup & sometimes a dash of lemon to make seafood sauce. [Razz] Yummm!

That is just nasty! I remember them trying to sell something like that with the pommes frittes (french fries) you could by at sidewalk stands in Europe... except instead of ketchup and mayo, it was a kind of curry sauce and mayo... let's just say I was glad I had to toss the thing in the garbage before getting on the bus, but mad I was out the money...

Phoenix Fry Sauce = Mayo + small amount of Ketchup + HoneyMustard dressing. Mmmm good!

I also use it for tomatoe sandwiches. even better! sometimes I'll substitue Ranch for the Honey Mustard if I'm out. I have a bottle mixed up in my fridge right now.

I mean, seriously, a bunch of people get burrs in their shorts over threads like "Living Beyond Our Means", but nobody is bothered by insinuations that "intermountain" mormons are judged inferior to those elsewhere?
I have cried enough over the way that I am stereotyped. It doesn't seem to matter that some of us have feelings hurt because it is the in thing to joke and complain about. After this last week on another board I'm just going to try to leave it alone.

The best fry sauce also has pickles and onions.
