I was reading the other thread about a group trying to hasten the 2nd coming with technology. Obviously the Lord has his own timetable, and we won't affect that the way this group wants to. But it does bring up the question: what general time frame (since no one knows the exact time) do you think Christ will come? Tomorrow? In a few years? In a few centuries?

In the last 2,000 years, there have been thousands (even millions?) of people who have thought the second coming would happen in their lifetime. So far, all of them have been wrong. So I'm going to play it safe and assume it won't be happening in my lifetime, and teach my kids to do the same. I will be pleasantly surprised if it does happen in my lifetime, and I won't be disappointed if it doesn't.
I also think the actual second coming will be very, very different from what modern Church members expect, since the interpretations of the signs and events always seem to be deeply rooted in contemporary culture, be it the 18th, 20th, or 21st century (how many of us grew up with an apocalyptic view that was based on the Cold War?). And those who are around at that time will be amazed at how much their interpretation of the prophesied signs and events differs from how it actually plays out.

Actually, we can have an effect on Christ's coming, He said He would cut short His work in righteousness.
I believe in the next 10-20 years, but that is Valhalla's opinion and worth what you paid for it. I just think the signs and how things are going point to it.

BTW, I think it was Brigham Young who said something to the effect of "Live as if the 2nd coming is tomorrow, but plant cherry trees." That is, keep your level of personal righteousness as high as if it were tomorrow, but don't cut short your long term plans. So even if the second coming were in the next 15 minutes, you should still work on your long term plans.

In some ways I hope I'm around for it and in other ways I really hope I'm not. I'd like to witness the Savior's return, but don't want to deal with increased wickedness and what I assume will be great suffering of some kind by Earth's inhabitants.

BTW, to answer my own question, I'm thinking of a time table of around 10-15 years at the outside. Societal changes are happening at an ever more rapid pace.

Casi, doesn't the Adversary believe in Christ, just totally reject him? Then why not the Anti-Christ?

I don't think the Second Coming will happen in my lifetime. Every generation since Christ was crucified has thought that, and they've all been wrong.
And if the AntiChrist is posting on nauvoo, I'm not all that worried about Armageddon either, since obviously he's got too much time on his hands . . . Posts: 4767 | Registered: Jun 2004

Every generation since Christ was crucified has thought that, but one generation will be right. The key to knowing is to watch the signs, as Christ said to do.

Do you really think this is true? That EVERY generation of Christians has thought that their generation would be it?
Of course, one day there will be a generation who will think that they are it, and they'll be RIGHT. How do we know it's not us? Posts: 2992 | Registered: Jun 2003

Nah. The parable of the 10 virgins tells us that he'll be coming when we least expect him, in the middle of the night when we're asleep. As long as we're expecting him, he won't come. Posts: 5841 | Registered: Sep 2005

Yes, many have thought Christ would come in their time, but in watching for the signs, most had not come to pass, but many are now starting to be or have been fulfilled.

When I first was re-activated and Trooper was baptized, I used to think (and even dream!) about the 2nd coming all the time. Now, I rarely even consider it. Wonder why that is...
When I read these estimates that are under 20 years, it really gives me pause. I have an infant son, and 4 other children under the age of 10. Does that mean that they will barely have become adults when Christ comes? I will only be 57 years old in 20 years....
Maybe the reason I don't think about it often is because it makes my head hurt.
