We just got a cute little black lab pup. (It's a girl!!) for our little girl who has been begging for a puppy since she could say the word "dogga"..... "want dogga!". She is now 6 years old.... and we got her a little lab puppy the day after Thanksgiving. We need a name for her.... something cute and girly, but not too ordinary or too odd either. Any ideas....

My little lab/spaniel mix growing up was named Cheeto. But I don't suppose that's quite what you're looking for. Posts: 4327 | Registered: Jul 2004

Another pretty black mineral is Obsidian, solidified lava that looks like glass (like a lab's coat!). Would she like to be named Obsidian--with Syd for a nickname?

I had a rottweiler I named Zena (yes, spelled like that and not Xena). She was a great dog. Scared my MIL though Zena loved her (Zena was pretty big and would come bounding up to you (not on you)- my MIL is about 5' so, you get the picture).

Flower, after the skunk from Bambi. My parents had a dear little Pekingese named Flower. And it's very girly!

Alright, the last dozen or so were actually horses, but you know, pet names work with whatever, right? I guess we've had mostly male dogs and female horses. Posts: 2847 | Registered: Sep 2006

Mishuga: it's a corruption of "my sugar", with sugar being a common endearment in the south.
edit to add: for those that didn't understand why I used the "kiss" emoticon, in the south, "sugar" is also slang for a kiss, as in: "Come give Aunt Spotted Horse some sugar, darlin'".

Wow! You learn a lot about people by the names of their pets! "Darn" had the best explanation, though! I have friends who could relate! V.

I have one dog. She's Sasha. Also Sashababy Sashabasha Sashi Sashagobasha And on and on.
Now, if this isn't the strangest thing. She was laying on the floor, quiet as could be, but when I started typing this response (after an hour of typing other stuff with no reaction from her) she sat up tall and started staring at me. How in the world did she know I was thinking so hard about her and writing all of her little pet names down? Posts: 2713 | Registered: Feb 2000

My cat Tellulah was like that. I'd think of her, and she'd come running and meowing at me. Every single time.
My existing male cat is Oberon, named after the King of the Faeries in A Midsummer Night's Dream. He's fat and huge and is still scared of all the local cats who're 1/5 his size. Posts: 4294 | Registered: Apr 2003

Most of my dogs have been bassets, all were rescued, and all were interesting.
NOEL was rescued from a pound. We got her for Christmas that year, hence the name. Her big trick was to scratch at the door and when you got up to open it, she would take your seat! She would also wake the kids up by bounding on them in thier mid section. FLASH was rescued from some kids who were abusing him. He was the slowest dog in the world and would wag his tail and ‘woof’ once if he did not recognize someone. A watch dog he was not.
BEAUREGARDwas found on the hwy. He would walk the kids to the bus in the morning and escort them home after school. Otherwise he was holding the porch down.
AMY was the last basset we had. She loved car rides and would climb in cars and trucks all the time. The meter readers and delivery men had to learn to shut their doors or they would see Amy’s floppy eared face in the rear view. One time the UPS guy did not do this, and he had to bring Amy back at the end of his day. We learned to make two turkeys each holiday when we had Amy. She would somehow get up on the table or counter and steal one!

I vote for Bailey. I've never owned a dog, but our neighbors in Germany had a lab named Bailey, and she was the sweetest thing.

quote: Did you just do a David on my kitchen floor? Bad Dog!!
That made me laugh so hard, I almost cried.
I think she is settling on Bailey.... its hard to know for sure though,.... yesterday it was Gracie. Now she says that is Bailey-Gracey -Abbey -Taylor ( a dog with four names.... wow... must be a really loved dog!!! he he he)She thinks she'll just call her Bailey for short!!
She got the greatest kick out of the darn dog poems. She told everyone at the clinic and they just laughed and laughed too!!

Reminds me of the guy who asked a cowboy what kind of dog he should get. The cowboy replied, "You should get a dachshund." The man asked, "Why?" The cowboy replied, "Yippee ki-yi-yay, get a long little doggie!" Posts: 3371 | Registered: Aug 2004
