Hey thanks to whomever recommended this title. I think it was Boardmadd... or someone who was a Babylon 5 fan... (I knew you have good taste, whomever you were.) I disagree that the show is better written than B5, but it's definitely more funny... and very touching in parts.
The fam and I have watched the first two "books" together and they're really really entertaining and good. We can't wait for the third book to come out.

Not sure if I recommended it originally, but I certainly would . Avatar is good stuff. Glad you are enjoying it.
If you like the intrigue and progressive storyline, I'd also throw props to Fullmetal Alchemist, but that's probably better suited to teens (they get into some deep stuff in that one, but it is *very* well done).

I sit with my kids and watch the Avatar shows. They are great stories and their stories lines assume the audience has a brain cell or two also. Posts: 7721 | Registered: May 2001

I've watched a few Legend of Korra. My impressions are that it's missing a lot of the charm of the original series. It's a bit darker, and Korra's simply not as pleasant a character as Ang. There's also a lot more "boyfriend/girlfriend" drama, that's okay in moderation, but sometimes gets a little annoying because the characters are a bit older...

Legend of Korra is missing the interplay between Ang and gang. The setting also doesn't change as much. My oldest son is enjoying it and keeps up with the series online but I've only seen the first three so far (so, my opinion may not be informed enough). I've liked what I've seen but not as much as the The Last Airbender. My kids have watched The Last Airbender series about four or five times now - need Legend of Korra on Netflix soon.

The world tech has progressed to about the 1950s Japan, which my kids found to be very off-putting.
Though I like a little "Steampunk", I'm not a huge fan of it, and I hope the writers don't just go for whatever's popular these days.
They have what looks like could turn out to be some rather original storytelling and settings... if they don't fall victim to copying what's been done before.

A 19th-century world that has thrown off its tyrants and embraced freedom might inevitably progress to a 20th-century technology in the span of 70 years.

I like this new show. I think the villains are scarier than Ozai. I also think Tenzin's children are so cute and funny.
