I put a thread on asking (ok, begging) for help with a pre-school question about my computer. The thread was falling to the bottom so I "bumped" it up and it disappeared. If you see it, would you send it home?
Here's the question again. I have two computers. I want to transfer some pics on one computer to the other, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to make a disk and get the pics where I can access them on the other computer. I have learned a few things about computers by hook/crook, but I have never figured this out. After spending several hours on it again, I thought I'd see if someone can help me through it.

One easy way is to burn the photos to a CD and then transfer the CD to the second computer. If you don't have a CD writer, then perhaps a flash drive can be used. They could also be uploaded to a site like yahoo photos and then downloaded back to the second computer.

Do you know how to "drag and drop"? Because I'm thinking from your original question that you may not even know how to do this. If this is the case, what you want to do is click on "Start" at the bottom of your screen, then go to "My computer" and click on that. This will give you a list of all the drives on your computer. The pictures on your computer will probably be on the "C" drive, so click on that and locate them. Once you have the file located where the pictures are, you can go back to "My Computer" and open another window for the drive that you want to transfer the pics to. So, if you go and get a flash drive, find the icon for that drive, and if you are instead using a cd drive, find the icon for that drive. The flash drive icon will not appear unless you actually have the flash drive inserted into a USB port, which should be located somewhere on your computer case (unless you have a pretty old computer), but the cd icon will always be visible. Now, you should have two windows open--the one containing the pictures, and the one for the drive. Oh, and make sure you have a disk in the cd burner. Now, you can left click on the entire file of pictures, then keeping the mouse button down, "drag" them to the other window where the drive you want to copy them to appears, and let go of the mouse button. This works really easily on a flash drive, but with a cd drive, you may not have a "drag and drop" function available. With a cd drive, you may need some extra "cd burning" software installed. If you need help with that, let me know, or post here and someone can help. Anyway, if you don't want the entire file of pictures copied, you can select individual photos by holding down the "Control" button, and clicking on whichever photos you want to copy, continuing to hold down "Control" until you are finished. Then left-click your mouse, and still holding down the mouse button, drag these photo files onto your flash or other drive. If you have used the Control button to select them, all of the selected ones will go at once to the new drive.

Thanks, Shane, for your very complete directions. By some miracle I got the pics transferred last night, but I'm not really sure how I did it. I think I'll be ok next time with the directions you posted. Posts: 103 | Registered: Feb 2008
