We paid off our house in May, but haven't received anything like the title to it. Since I've never paid off a house before, I'm not sure how all of this works, but I'd assume, like a car, if you pay it off you get the title to it to tuck safely away in a safe deposit box or something. Am I wrong?

Haven't paid off a house either, but my understanding is the same as yours- the mortgage holder should have sent you the title. I would contact the company that administered the mortgage to find out what's going on.

I also suggest that you check with the office of the Recorder of Deeds for your county. The mortgage holder needs to record a release of mortgage to show that your indebtedness to them is cleared and that they no longer have an interest in the property.

Thanks. I actually called Bank of America and all they sent me was a paper that said I had paid it off (some kind of document of reconveyance) , but no deed or anything. And they told me that they generally don't send anything unless requested. I'm just really confused as to why that's all I got from them.
Thanks, Jen. It was great to pay it off.

Yep. Now it's time for my wife's implants. We've already paid more than $5000 with about $6000 left to go--doggone dental bills. And we've let the upkeep slide on our house, so when the dentist is paid off, we'll need to start making those repairs, all so that we can sell the house we've paid off and move into another one that is more conducive to my wife's condition.

Herr Jones, I still haven't really seen any extra cash...car problems, medical bills, my daughter losing her job...all things conspiring against me getting ahead. Posts: 3194 | Registered: May 2006

Jason knows that. I said it right in the post. He's just being his funny self. I was wondering if anyone would take that wrong though, so that's why I made sure I added something about dentists in that post. Posts: 3194 | Registered: May 2006

I'll admit, my first thought was for that other kind of implants, but that didn't sound right...
