We will be having a social towards the end of February. So if you have any ideas for activities to do, or food to have (we're thinking we'll only have a dessert there), or any other helpful comments, please post them.

Sorry to be dense, will it be HP only, or HP plus wives? Are you in the States? I only ask because I believe the average age of HPs is higher than here in the UK.
Will it be at the chapel or are you looking for ideas for other things to do?

My father hosted a Rock Star 2 party (you know... the video game for XBOX) for a HP group social. It was a big hit. Now granted, at least half the HP's are under 50 in his ward (although his isn't), but just cuz your a HP doesn't mean you don't like Van Halen any more.

That would be me. Here are some fun Elder's quarum activities we did in one of my old wards:
1) Bratwurst BBQ before every General Conference p-hood session
2) Monthly board game night (apples to apples was a popular one here)
3) Quake deathmatch party (we tried Splinter Cell one night, but it wasn't as popular)
4) Salsa dance lessons
We were going to have sword fighting lessons once but the guy who was going to teach got sick. Oh well.
Anyway, be creative and don't feel like you have to include everyone. Just have enough activities with sufficient variaty that eventually someone will find something interesting.

I was going to suggest Wii, but Rock Band is really fun too. You could also have board games in other rooms, for those who aren't interested in the video games.

Most of our high priests are under 50. Of those who will come who are over 50, they are young at heart. Our three oldest will due to health reasons be unable to attend. It will be high priests and their wives.

In my ward the HP invite the single sisters to their activities since they are home taught by the HPG. Is that what you are doing?

Our next scheduled HP social is a day of targetshooting followed by women joining for bbq. Good thing no one is drinking.

Square dancing. I love square dancing. If they had a square dancing activity I'd crash it, lol.

Would anyone come if Dick Cheney were invited with a gun?
And the men are upfront -- they don't want the women there. Some are considering crashing it (and at least the men are not expecting the women to cook the food while they are about doing their thing.)

We have mostly 70 year old High Priests and 90 widows, who are also in their 70's -80's, and had a great HP Social ..with a DJ ( one of the Elders), who took requests for music from the 50's and someone had posters or news articles taped to the walls, of 50's recording artists, which you had to identify as part of a game. There was dancing... with strobe lights...pretty hip stuff for 70-80 year olds, and they really went to it!!We have a couple in the Ward who are professional ballroom dancers,( which we didn't know about until they started dancing) who put on quite a show. We served a light dinner, and it was all a Valentines theme, since we did it in Feb. I'm sure it would work for a "younger" crowd..just adjust the music selection and posters accordingly.
