The paper said the residents have been told to not use tap water for 48 hours, due to a mix up in water additives. Can you imagine having that happen to you? Right away I knew that any LDS who followed water storage would be ok for at least drinking and cooking water, maybe basic washing. It sounded like a wake up call to me. Storms we've been dealing with, this was just a neighborhood mess and not a natural act.

Not to use, or not to use without boiling? Most things in water can be boiled, settled, then used.

In NJ after hurricane Floyd the water in our area was undrinkable for almost 2 weeks without boiling. We had a well so we were ok, but the schools were closed for an extra day or two and then they told students to bring bottled water. It was just a pain for me, but a real hassle for a lot of folks. All the stores put pallets of bottled water in the front, but not fun.

ketchupqueen, someone dumped some kind of ash powder that was supposed to go into concrete. You could bathe in it but not drink or even brush your teeth with it.
I don't store water but I imagined what I would have done, having no water for 2 days. I think I'll go out and buy 2 cases of bottled water.
With storms you expect the worst but something like this, so unexpected, shows why some storage is necessary.
