I know--- [Taunt] , there is no such thing. [Laugh] [ROFL]

But for once, there is. [Clap] So everyone knows who has (again) put off doing their taxes until the last week--the deadline for your 1040 this year is Monday, April 18. It is not due tomorrow.

The reason is that the IRS is required by Federal law to recognize any holiday observed by the District of Columbia. April 16, Emancipation Day, is an official Washington D.C. holiday. But because it falls on Saturday, the city is observing it on Friday the 15th. And so the IRS is closed tomorrow.

If your state does not observe Emancipation Day and has an April 15 deadline, that might still apply (check your state form). [Grumble]

Anything to confuse the common people. [Roll Eyes]

Huh. I've lived right next to DC all my life and never knew that Emancipation Day was an official holiday!

Raro, me too. Now I'm glad I know the answer! Also, I'm glad I did my taxes last weekend so I don't have to stress about them [Smile]

The end of the tax season is the 18th no matter where you live. If a holiday is celebrated in DC and no where else and if that holiday affects the IRS, the tax dead line is adjusted accordingly.

Redd, does that apply to STATE returns in all states that have an April 15 deadline?

In CA, our state returns are being accepted up to the 18th. I didn't know if all states were also going to match the IRS schedule.

Anyway, good news for procrastinators. My check is in the mail. [Grumble]

Illinois extended the state filing deadline to 4/18 to match the federal. It's definitely important to check if you haven't filed yet, though.

Poor accountants..... will have to extend their tax season misery through another long weekend. We did get in and get ours taken care of today.. (procrastinators.... I know) .... but it is nice to have it done before the weekend. YAY!! Everyone in the accountant office looked so worn out though.... at least Easter is late this year, and they will actually get to enjoy Easter weekend! [Smile]
