This came up in Primary yesterday when we had the lesson on Joseph foriving his brothers. One of the girls asked if Joseph's brothers told Israel knew how they had misled him about the whereabouts of Joseph, ie pretending he had been killed, etc. I said I didn't know but will look into it. Ideas?
I looked in the OT Study Guide and reviewed the scriptures and can't find anything that indicates the brothers confessed to their dad about the decption. I do know the brothers were repentant about their actions to Joseph.
Would this be something that the brothers didn't tell their dad about what they had done in order to spare him further pain/grief in his very old age - ie Jacob/Israels own father had tricked him into marrying Leah first. I think even if the brothers did tell their dad about what they had done, he forgave them- ie he gave them all their special blessings right before his death.
Anyway, just wondering if you have any ideas.

D&C 64:10 "I, the Lord, will forgive whom I will forgive, but of you it is required to forgive all men."
If he didn't know in this life, he surely would have found out in the next life. And since we believe that Jacob went to heaven, he must have forgiven them at some point.

The text simply doesn't tell us, but seems to assume his ignorance of how Joseph ended up in Egypt.

There is some irony here in the story as well, in that Jacob, who used the skin of a goat to deceive his father into thinking that he was his hairy brother Esau and get the blessing, was later deceived by his sons who used the blood of a goat to make Joseph's special garment look bloody.
What goes around comes around....

Thanks again for all your input. I do feel bad that everyone deceived Jacob. I think it is great taht at least Joseph honored his request via oath to bury him where he wanted to be buried. I think it would have been terrible if even in his burial if he had been deceived.
